SYNOPSIS

Jasminum - the story of a monastery and its inhabitants. With a little twist… Sanitas lives in the monastery with his fellow brothers: Sweetberry, brother Birdcherry and brother Plum, who are also pious, religiously astute, and prone to bouts of silence as they strive to achieve spiritual perfection. A small monk community would not differ much from others but for the fact that three of the monks, brother Sweetberry, brother Birdcherry and brother Plum, have a characteristic scent. They lead seemingly uneventful lives until an art restoration expert, and her little daughter, Genia, whose charm and curiosity bring confusion into monks’ calm life, pay a visit to the mundane monastery. Strange things start to happen…

In this brilliantly crafted piece, director Jan Jakub Kolski explores the idea of science versus faith. Together with him we try to answer the question what constitutes a miracle, what is faith, what secrets does the monastery hold and what is a 1617 prophecy by Brother Barnabas? And yet, independent of the answers (or lack of thereof), this extraordinary film with magical cinematography will do nothing less than tantalize your senses.
The film is all about magical smell, which adds to the fairytale aspect of the film.

Każdy z nich pachnie innym, owocowym zapachem: jeden czeremchą, drugi czereśnią, a trzeci śliwą, a zapachy te mają szczególne właściwości...
Przyjazd młodej konserwatorki malarstwa Nataszy, mającej odnowić klasztorne obrazy wraz z 5-letnią rezolutną córką Gienią, wprowadzają wiele zamętu w spokojnym dotąd życiu mnichów... Natasza zaczyna się interesować zapachami wydzielanymi przez trzech Braciszków. Jej naukowe podejście każe jej wątpić w ich cudowne właściwości. W tej historii ludzie, budynki i zapachy mają swoje tajemnice.
