SYNOPSIS

The stylish, shot partly in black and white, darkly humorous suspense story, set against the backdrop of communist Poland in the 1950’s, tells the tale of Sabina, a quiet, shy woman who has just turned thirty. She lives with her mother and grandmother - two flamboyant incarnations of the Varsovian intelligentsia, and clearly, she lacks a man in her life. Whilst the elder ladies' match-making schemes prove somewhat disastrous, the family soon finds they've got more than they'd bargained for when One day, appearing out of nowhere, comes the charming, intelligent, and terribly good-looking Bronisław, who finally does win Sabina's heart. His presence will spark off a series of unexpected events revealing the darker side of the women's nature.

Reverse takes a novel approach to an unremittingly bleak time - the era of Stalinist oppression (1948-56), and while it has been billed in the press as a black comedy, the tag is a little misleading, as it is hard to pigeon-hole as belonging to a specific genre.

Gracefully shot by Marcin Koszałka, and with a superlative script by Andrzej Bart, the film has been selected as Poland's Official Submission to the Best Foreign Language Film Award for the 2010 Academy Awards.

Akcja filmu, rozgrywa się w dwóch planach czasowych – wczesnych latach pięćdziesiątych oraz współcześnie. Główną bohaterką jest Sabina (Agata Buzek), „szara myszka”, która właśnie przekroczyła trzydziestkę. W jej życiu wyraźnie brakuje mężczyzny. Matka (Krystyna Janda) wie o tym najlepiej, dlatego próbuje za wszelką cenę znaleźć dla swojej córki odpowiedniego kandydata na męża. Całą sytuację kontroluje babcia (Anna Polony), ekscentryczna dama o ciętym języku, przed którą nie uchowa się żadna tajemnica.

W starej kamienicy pojawiają się kolejni amatorzy. Żaden z nich nie wzbudza jednak zainteresowania Sabiny. Pewnego dnia, „jak spod ziemi”, zjawia się tajemniczy Bronisław (Marcin Dorociński). Jego obecność rozpocznie serię zaskakujących zdarzeń, które ujawnią ciemną stronę kobiecej natury...
